In 2025, the Vietnam cashew industry recorded an impressive performance, reaching approximately $5.5 billion in export value, reinforcing its position as the world’s leading supplier of Vietnam cashew nuts. This achievement highlights the industry’s strong adaptability to global market fluctuations and its growing reputation in the global cashew market.

However, heading into 2026, the Vietnam cashew export industry is expected to face multiple challenges. Ongoing geopolitical tensions in Eastern Europe and the Middle East continue to disrupt global trade and logistics, directly impacting cashew exports from Vietnam. These uncertainties are likely to affect shipping timelines, increase transportation costs, and create volatility in international demand.

Another critical issue is the industry’s heavy dependence on imported raw cashew nuts from Africa. Many African supplying countries are implementing stricter policies, including export restrictions, higher taxes, minimum pricing, and prioritization of domestic processing. As a result, the supply of raw materials is tightening, leading to rising input costs for Vietnam cashew processors and exporters.

At the same time, conflicts in the Middle East are further disrupting global logistics chains, pushing up fuel and freight costs. The structure of Vietnam’s cashew export markets is also evolving. China has surpassed the United States to become the largest importer of Vietnam cashew kernels, while the Middle East, despite its growth potential, remains a high-risk region due to ongoing instability.

Businesses should carefully manage contracts to avoid shipment delays, unexpected financial costs, or price renegotiations upon delivery. At the same time, strengthening trade relationships with key markets such as the United States and China will be essential to maintain stable export growth.

Amid these uncertainties, the Vietnam cashew industry outlook for 2026 targets approximately 800,000 tons of export volume, with a total export value of around $5 billion. This is considered a cautious yet realistic goal, reflecting a strategic focus on stability and sustainable growth in the cashew sector, rather than aggressive expansion under volatile conditions.

To achieve this target, the industry must implement a range of strategic solutions. These include diversifying raw material sources to reduce reliance on Africa, expanding and balancing cashew export markets, and leveraging key destinations such as the United States and China while exploring emerging markets like the EU and India.

Furthermore, promoting deep processing of cashew products will help increase added value and strengthen the global competitiveness of Vietnam cashew brands. Businesses should also focus on risk management through careful contract negotiation, effective inventory control, and optimization of logistics costs, including exploring alternative shipping routes.

In the long term, adopting advanced technologies and aligning with international standards such as ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) and product traceability will play a crucial role.
